Summary up to 500 words

In Thomas Nelson Page's *Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus*, young Tommy Trot and his friend Johnny Stout embark on a magical Christmas Eve adventure. After Tommy breaks his sled, he persuades his father to take him to the coasting hill, where he reunites with Johnny. As they sled down, the boys imagine their goats transforming into reindeer, transporting them to the enchanting city of Santa Claus located near the North Pole. Upon arrival, they learn a profound lesson: Santa Claus values gifts given to others far more than those intended for oneself. A guard explains that while Santa gives joy to those who ask for things for others, asking for personal desires often leads to boredom or loss. Santa takes the boys on a tour of his bustling workshops before leading them on a dangerous hunt for a polar bear. The purpose of the hunt is to obtain a robe for Tommy's mother, who is unwell. Despite forgetting to load their guns, the boys face the beast with courage. Their loyal dog, Sate, plays a pivotal role by subduing the bear, allowing the boys to skin it successfully. Santa returns in his sleigh, praising their bravery and generosity. Upon waking, Tommy finds the bear's skin and a new cow for Johnny's mother, along with the goats Johnny had given him. The story concludes with the boys realizing that Santa Claus has been watching over them all along, rewarding their growth in character and selflessness.
