Set in a wealthy Chinese capital, the narrative introduces Mustafa, a poor tailor, and his neglected son, Alaeddin. Following Mustafa's death from grief over his son's idleness, Alaeddin lives a life of aimlessness until a mysterious African magician, his long-lost uncle, arrives. Grieving his brother, the uncle adopts Alaeddin and encourages him to learn a trade. Alaeddin chooses to become a merchant, and his uncle provides him with a shop and fine clothes. Soon, Alaeddin catches the attention of the Sultan, who wishes to marry his daughter, Princess Bedrulbudur, to him. However, the vizier advises the Sultan to demand an exorbitant dowry of forty golden basins filled with jewels and attended by eighty slaves to deter the poor boy. Alaeddin, confident in his abilities, consults his magical lamp. The genie instantly provides the lavish gifts, creating a spectacle that shocks the court. The Sultan, impressed by the wealth, agrees to the marriage. Meanwhile, a rival sorcerer, the brother of the African magician, has infiltrated the palace disguised as a holy woman named Fatime. She befriends the princess and suggests adding a roc's egg to the palace dome. When Alaeddin requests this, the genie warns him of the danger. Alaeddin realizes the woman is an impostor and kills her before she can harm him. The true Fatime is revealed to have been murdered by the rival sorcerer. Years later, the Sultan dies, and the princess inherits the throne, ruling alongside Alaeddin with a prosperous lineage.
