In the untamed territories of Sonora, American hunter Oregon Oliver and his companion Mr. Gladsden seek refuge at Rancho Verde, a tavern run by the half-breed Uncle Camote. Their respite is short-lived as they are ambushed by a gang of Apaches led by the formidable Iron Shirt. During the chaos, Oliver's friend Benito is killed by an Apache arrow, and the group's horses are stolen. Oliver and Benito's companion, Dolores, are pursued through the dense chaparral until they reach the safety of the ranch. Upon arriving at the tavern, they are greeted by a hostile atmosphere filled with drunken outlaws. Tensions escalate when a local bandit accuses Oliver of murdering his brother-in-arms, leading to a swift and decisive intervention by Oliver, who incapacitates the aggressor before a full-scale brawl erupts. Suddenly, a wounded rider signals danger from the woods. Oliver realizes his friend, Don Jorge, is being hunted by Apaches. Acting quickly, Oliver cuts the lariats of three horses tethered nearby, splices them into a rope, and slides down a cliff face to intercept the pursuing Apaches. Oliver's arrival creates confusion, allowing him to fire upon the attackers. He kills two Apaches and forces the chief, Iron Shirt, into a desperate retreat. Don Jorge, the young Mexican hacendero, joins the fray, engaging Iron Shirt in a fierce duel with swords. Despite the chief's ferocity and hatred for the Americans, Don Jorge's skill and courage prevail. He delivers a fatal blow to Iron Shirt, avenging the death of his father and the loss of his own son. With the immediate threat neutralized, the survivors recover their weapons and horses, leaving the defeated Apaches behind. The narrative concludes with Oliver reflecting on his friendship with Don Jorge and the tragic loss of his own companion, setting the stage for further adventures involving the wealthy heiress, Dona Perla.
