In Lewis Carroll's *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland*, a bored young girl named Alice chases a White Rabbit down a rabbit-hole, tumbling through a deep well into a surreal underground world. She lands in a vast hall filled with locked doors and discovers a tiny golden key that unlocks a small door leading to a beautiful garden. However, Alice is too large to pass through. After drinking from a bottle labeled 'DRINK ME,' she shrinks to ten inches, allowing her entry, but she soon loses the key. She attempts to restore her size by eating a cake marked 'EAT ME,' only to experience fluctuating dimensions and frustration. Alice's journey leads her to meet bizarre characters, including the Cheshire Cat, who vanishes leaving only his grin, and the Mad Hatter and March Hare at a tea party that never ends. She also encounters the Mock Turtle and the Gryphon, who recount the tragic tale of the Lobster Quadrille and sing songs about turtle soup. The narrative then shifts to the chaotic trial of the Knave of Hearts, accused of stealing the Queen of Hearts' tarts. Alice is called as a witness and grows to a gigantic size, challenging the court's arbitrary rules, such as Rule Forty-two, which demands that anyone over a mile high leave the court. The trial descends into absurdity as the Queen orders executions and the jury struggles with nonsensical evidence. Alice eventually realizes the entire adventure was a dream upon waking up beside her sister. She recounts the strange events to her sister, who listens with affection before Alice drifts off to sleep herself. The story explores themes of identity, logic, and the absurdity of adult authority, using a whimsical tone to critique rigid social conventions and the illogical nature of grown-up rules.
